Last year in my history class my three favorite topics we covered were civil rights, women's rights and prohibition. Since is was a brief class we didn't get to in depth in study. However all three of these were very controversial times and I believe would be very interesting to study and learn the different points of view.

Your interests should yield results as you start looking for resources. Keep in mind that Prohibition and speakeasies were a 20th-century phenomenon, but the temperance movement in the 19th century is what eventually lead to Prohibition. Also, keep in mind that you want to look for scholarship that deals with the rhetoric/oratory of the time/issue/speaker you are interested in pursuing.
